When I went for my physical and my a1c was 6.7 /140 glucose
after a 12 hour fast, and my doctor wanted to
wanted to start me on meds. I discussed with him about trying
diet and exercise.

I have now lost 28 lbs feel and sleep better. I went back to the doctor
several times to monitor my glucose.
My cholesterol went down from 248 to 171, my glucose depending on
how dedicated I am ranges from 71 to 105.

I would like to share what I have read. Also Dr Barnard has scientific
proof his methods work.

1. Exercise before breakfast lowers blood sugar for the whole day...I have
logged my numbers in before and after and days that I didn't and found
that exercise significantly lowers my numbers.(if your glucose is low
in the morning wait till after breakfast to exercise)

2.Your fat intake and cholesterol affects the liver which inturn
affects the pancreas ability to handle glucose.

3.Dr Barnard recommends cinnamon and other spices that help control
glucose. I really love Almond butter spread on Ezekial bread with cinnamon.
Ezekial bread can be found in the organic frozen section of most grocery stores.

4. Good vitamin recomendations,Diabetics especially need B-12

5. This book tells you about the glycemic index of food, and more in depth
charts can be found on the internet. Low to high glycemic index.

6. If you do splurge with something sweet eat the light not sugar free
because of all the additives, take a walk afterwards
to burn up extra glucose in your system or whatever exercise works
best for you.

This book reccomends a vegan lifestyle which has remarkable results
however I couldn't completely go vegan
and I have cut back on meat intake and try to at least
have one meal without meat,somedays I do the vegan thing and
my glucose is controllable with diet and exercise. I monitor
my glucose regularly, and schedule doctor visits.


Watch out for too many soy products, because soy can depress the thyroid
which can cause other problems.

Also beware and watch for high fructose corn syrup, studies have
shown that there has been a dramatic increase in diabetes since
this product was introduced and it is in most everything.


I have other family with diabetes so I know how bad diabetes can be
for the health and also how the meds can cause other problems.

16 years as a diabetic, aggravated by exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. All fasting blood sugars in the first week below 115. They have never been this low ever. The logic for why this works is flawless. It is the way our ancestors ate for thousands of years. Plant food and one multivitamin is all we need. If you are committed and smart you will make this work and enjoy the healthy body that comes with it.

Everyone is different and nothing should be expected to work for all folks.
I recently got a form letter from my health care clinic following routine a physical.
It pointed out that my blood sugar level was increasing to pre-diabetic levels and
that some liver enzymes were out of balance. It made no recommendations, offered no advise.
This book gave me an interesting insight. Over the last several years my family diet had
included increasing quantities of meat and animal products. We had been eating primarily
vegetarian (not as a religion, just preference.) Over the same period I began to experience
itchy skin under certain conditions.

Ok, after reading this book and additional research I draw the following connection:

Meat/Fat --> Glucose/blood --> Liver Enzyme --> Itchy Skin

Taking the other reviews at face value I'll implement the "Vegan" dietary recommendations
and return to the clinic in a few months (as they recommended) and retest. I'm cautiously
optimistic.

Curiously the same testing revealed that my Cholesterol levels which were at the high
end of the newer standards had dropped to the low end. ???

In any case I'm not here to prove science I just want to avoid future difficulties. The
medical profession and drug companies would prefer to profit from their care and drugs.

I purchased this book after seeing Dr. Barnard's program on PBS. Dr. Barnard is a great communicator. He makes something as drastic as a vegan diet seem entirely practical and doable. And it really is! I used to be someone who could not imagine not eating meat, but after going just a week without eating the flesh of animals, the idea of eating meat seemed repulsive. It's been a month now and I've lost 15 pounds, I feel great, my cholesterol and blood sugar levels have plummeted, and I'm not contributing to the suffering of intelligent creatures anymore. I already have some good before and after pics and after I get ripped, I plan to blog about the whole thing using the pics as proof. Maybe I can get in Dr. Barnard's next book or on the website.

There are many reasons to go Vegan. Dr. Barnard wisely focuses on the health reasons, knowing that most intelligent readers will do their own research about the other myriad of reasons to stop consuming animal products. Here's the big one: YOU ELIMINATE ALL SOURCES OF DIETARY CHOLESTEROL. As he says in the book, "every cell in your body will thank you." Also keep in mind that if you see yourself as an environmentalist, save the earth type of person, than you should look into the havoc that the meat industries are reeking on our planet, not to mention starvation in third world countries.

So that's how I feel now. After tons of failed diets, this is the one that really works. My family thinks I suddenly have an iron will (i'm not known for self-discipline), but it's really true that giving up meat is not that hard once you try. It helps to read some stuff on the PETA website also to get the gross out factor. For example: pigs, who are highly intelligent creatures, have their teeth torn out with no pain killers during the process of getting ready for the slaughter, milk contains a high level of pus, and eggs are the menstrual cycle of chickens (I did not know that). There are many other examples at the PETA website.

Aside from setting aside animal products, the book recommends limiting oils and eating foods low on the glycemic index. It's such a simple process that doesn't come with all the hype of the typical commercial diet, and to me it just makes sense. Buy it and read it with an open mind.

Delivery service slower than a turtle!Never again will I buy from this online company.
The book was in new condition, however, it would have been better to pay the extra funds at a local book store and have the item early, instead of waiting three weeks for delivery of a book!

Ai books NO GOOD!
