Amazon.com Review Baldur's Gate is a near-perfect adaptation of the classic tabletop, role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. Six separate races and eight core character classes, from which the player can create a completely original character, are available. The game world is well painted, and players are free to explore this wonderfully textured game environment in any way they see fit, all against the backdrop of a thoughtfully conceived and versatile plot. You begin the game as a young orphan living with your stepfather within the safe confines of a scholarly community. It is a happy and idyllic life until your stepfather is killed and it becomes clear that you are intended to be next. You, as the young protagonist, then set out to discover just what kind of a mess you're in. During the adventure, you recruit a number of personable allies, battle foes, delve into dungeons, trek across wilderness, solve puzzles, and complete a plethora of epic quests that are seamlessly sown into the fabric of the overall plot. The story line unfolds in response to your choices to reveal your character's true identity as well as the nature and motive of your enemies. If the Lord himself were to ask me what games he should have in his home game collection, the first two words out of my mouth would be Baldur's Gate. This 1998 Role-Playing Game of the Year is a masterpiece and the standard by which all such games will be judged for the foreseeable future. Groundbreaking 32-bit graphics, 3-D sound, multiplayer options, and a friendly real-time game engine are blended with a depth of plot in a way that redefines the genre. --Joshua B. Coombs Pros: - Versatile and responsive plot
- Entertaining character interaction
- Huge game world
- Friendly game engine
Cons: - Nonplayer characters exhibit little free will

Many hours, dragged out parts (at least for beginner) May 18, 2010 Kenneth Sandberg (Shingletown, CA) I play Diablo 2 a lot, and someone recommended this game. There are some similarities, but many differences. The one thing I don't like about this game is you have to continually go back (with the cursor) and forth to move the characters about. The battles must be done (at least for me to have a chance) with constant pausing and rearranging your characters so they don't get killed. I have probably put 25 hours in on the game, and I am still in Chapter 2. Maybe I just need more experience at the game, but so far it is frustrating. You kind of have to fly by the seat of your pants.
Baldur's Gate (used) August 28, 2009 Karl T. Purdy I purchased this game (used) from Amazon.com. The price was right and the owner sent much more than was required from the ad. It was a great experience and I would recommend that anyone should look to Amazon.com for the items they need.
Great August 23, 2009 Beverly Edie My son has been playing the game ever since he received it. He thinks its a great game.
Newbies August 9, 2009 Craig Hightshoe (Charlotte, NC) I played the games backwards so playing this for the first time was quite difficult (not use to ettercaps being an actually foe). All in all it's a great game with a great story.
Great May 9, 2009 J. Demoreaux 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
All four discs came in a paper sleeve, I was a little worried when it arrived that it would be damaged, but again each disc was in pristine condition. Another great buy
