Love it! June 26, 2010 Jagged I've used this mat for two different weekly games for the past 4 months. I've probably used and cleaned this mat about fifty times by now, with just regular cheap-o paper towels, and its still going strong. As easy to clean off today as the day I bought it. The tube it's shipped in makes for a perfect storage container and fits 3 sets of dice & the markers inside with room to spare. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. No more dry erase boards to load into the truck, or cleaners to wipe away the stains the boards leave behind. Just water and paper towels. Too easy!
worth the price and easy to use April 23, 2010 Edward W. Osorio (Oakland,CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
so i just got into DnD 4e and i've been reading up on being a DM. now at the time i was investing in the tiles that WoTC came out with, but i'm just spending money. then when i bought the modules adventures they didn't have the published maps with them so it left me confused and thinking 'how can i use those dungeons if i don't have the tiles or maps?' then i saw this battle map here and thought i give it a try since i read a lot of good reviews about it. when it came i felt the quality of it, really great look and i also bought the wet markers it came with since the mat is made of vinyl. USE wet eraser markers not dry because with wet you can wipe it clean with a wet cloth and use it again with dry its permanent. i'm now gonna buy the mega mat as well which is about 2ft by a 1 1/2 since i bought 2 of these which is worth it but a bigger one will sever better especially if you don't want the hassle of erasing and drawing a new area because you don't have enough room. its one side square and the other hex so if you're looking for double sided squares you'll be disappointed, but this will last you for a long time and save you money in the long run as well and as a DM i'm more prepared to run my dungeons and the hex you can use for other Role Playing games.
overall a great buy and you'll be happy that you bought it too, i know i am. also DON'T fold it roll it because it'll leave creases that'll be hard to remove. and like i said if you you're looking for the double sided square on this one you'll be disappointed but it's worth buying.
Very nice to have March 29, 2010 Kelu (Small Town MN, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Previously in my Role-playing games, we always used Star Wars Miniatures maps no matter what the setting. Unless it was one of those time where I set up terrain and we used inches instead of squares. It was fun, but we had to use the same maps for many different things, and the maps were always exactly the same.
Now, using a set of wet-erase markers, I can just sketch a quick map, add in any important details (Cover, computers, equipment, all that fun stuff) with another color or two, and voila! A different map.
I will point out for other potential buyers the mat came with a "Care & Feeding" sheet (That's right, care and FEEDING. Weird, huh?) that says NOT TO USE DRY ERASE.
DRY ERASE can stain it. Use only water-soluble pens, it says.
Great for our DnD Sessions March 18, 2010 Wes (Jacksonville, AL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We've been using this mat for our DND sessions for a few months now.
While being a bit more expensive than laminated paper mats, this mat is WORTH the extra few dollars.
First off, it's wet-erase so be sure to use the correct marker style. Dry-erase markers will stain this mat, so don't buy/use the wrong kind of marker.
The mat itself has a very heavy and soft feel to it. It has a bit of cushion to it as well, so all the minis have no problem standing up or anything.
Very highly recommended for GMs!
Chessex Battlemat January 27, 2010 Matthew Bowers (Texas) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Came folded and extremely creased, but several hours under heavy books took care of that. Storing it in the original package tube. Using colored Vis-A-Vis wet erase markers and a water/detergent solution with paper towels to erase. Warm colors like red tend to stain, but the water/detergent handles that well.
